Why We Don’t “Do” Cemeteries

We get asked quite often if we’ve investigated “this” cemetery or “that” cemetery. The honest answer is, we don’t believe cemeteries are “haunted”. Now, there are a few exceptions that are well documented with compelling evidence, but by and large, we simply do not believe that a cemetery contains the energy that is necessary for a paranormal entity to manifest itself.

There’s also another way to look at it logically: If you believe that the Sentient Energy (that we call our soul) leaves the body upon death, AND, if that sentient energy chooses NOT to pass on to wherever it is destined to go and chooses to “hang around”, why would it choose to hang around a place where its mortal body has been buried? You see, our belief is that a sentient soul will return to a place that has meaning to it. Perhaps it cannot detach itself from its family, or it feels some business is unfinished. Or even maybe, it is nefarious in nature, and simply wants to “terrorize” those it feels did wrong when it was alive.

A great deal of our research centers around energy, and it’s impact on paranormal activity. Much of that energy seems to be emotional, or electromagnetic in nature. A burial place simply does not have that much energy in abundance.

Lastly, there are the practical challenges of conducting an investigation outdoors. There are many factors that can contaminate the evidence that is collected: Wind, birds, barking dogs, distant voices, and cars. Evidence analysis is a tough enough challenge, and to introduce these natural factors makes credible evidence gathering even harder.

There are many historical exceptions to our hypothesis, the most notable is probably Getttysburg, PA, where there have been many impressive cases of residual hauntings. But by and large, our recommendation for serious Ghost hunters is to not waste your time and resources investigating in cemeteries.

Thanks so much for reading our blog, and have a great day!
~SCPR

WHY DO GHOSTS ONLY COME OUT AT NIGHT?

Well, the short answer to this is - they don't!

Many stories have been recounted by clients of the Southern Colorado Paranormal Researchers group that paranormal activity seems to happen at any time of the day. So that raises another question, one which we've been asked a lot as of late:

WHY DO GHOSTHUNTERS ONLY HUNT AT NIGHT AND IN THE DARK?

The answer to that question is really a very logical one. You see, dark, spooky environments make for great TV and movie drama. But the reality is, ghost hunters hunt at night because it's easier to control the environment in which you are investigating.

You see, night time is freer of human interaction, which can (and does) contaminate evidence. You have fewer people on the street, fewer cars driving by, fewer birds chirping and dogs barking. You have fewer heating and air conditioning units running, less water flowing.

To conduct a scientific Ghost Hunt, the hunter needs to have as much control of the environment as possible, and by all of these elements being eliminated, he or she can be more in tune with any "Sentient Energies" that may exist in a location.

The reasons for hunting in the dark are also grounded in logic, rather than spookiness. Think about a blind person. What happens when they are devoid of eyesight? Their remaining senses - hearing, touch, smell - become more accute. Another reason for hunting in total darkness has to do with the type of camera equipment a ghost hunter uses. Infrared cameras see in total darkness, and the idea is to capture an image shot in black and white - devoid of all color. This creates contrasts, which are easier to detect something that may be paranormal, whether it is a mist, a movement, a shadow and so on.

We all remember the great classic horror movies that were shot in black & white - prior to the invention of technicolor - and it created an eerie, creepy and dramatic environment. Those movies are my favorite, by the way, but as you can see, there is a total logic to the how's and why's Ghost Hunters practice their art.

Thanks for reading, everyone, and see you soon!
SO YOU WANT TO BE A GHOSTHUNTER?

You've watched the shows on TV. You've read books. So you want to be a Ghost Hunter?

Well, first of all, I must give you the harsh reality: It's a lot of work! It's not near as exciting as the television shows make you believe. The fact is 80% - 90% of the investigations we do, we will not find any credible evidence. There are a lot of long, meticulous hours that must be put in after an investigation to pour through the evidence, (i.e. audio and video that is captured). To do this, you must have time and good computer equipment. You also have to fit this activity in with normal activities such as family and work (No, you do not get paid to be a ghost hunter!) So your husbands, wives, girfriends, boyfriends, Moms, Dads, kids, family all have to understand why you lock yourself in a room and spend hours doing what is the equivalent of watching paint dry!

Still, if you have the time and patience and are serious about delving into the realm of paranormal investigation, FIRST you must take the time to study study and study more! Learn and understand what you are getting yourself into. Also, it helps to be technology savvy, as you will need to know about the high tech devices you use and understand what you are trying to get from them. You will also need to be familiar with the software used to study audio and video files. And have the money to aquire it.

The fact is, Ghost hunting groups are crawling out of the woodwork right now, and, at the risk of sounding a little arrogant, a lot of them are more in it for the thrill of a good time instead of finding serious, hard evidence. They will snap pictures of dust particles in the air and try to tell you it's a ghost. These types of groups give the field of paranormal research a bad name. So beware of the pretenders out there!

The most important piece of advice I can give you: Keep an open mind, but always be a skeptic first. 90% of the activity that is reported to us has natural explainations. Most common are heating and cooling systems, electromagnetic fields from exposed or old wiring, and the natural expansion of wood and metal as the building heats and cools.

Happy hunting my friends and thanks so much for you time!
